The Sleep and Cognitive Neuroscience Laboratory is part of the Department of Psychology at the University of Tennessee, and part of the University of Tennessee Health Science Center.
We work to understand how the brain regulates and optimizes sleep, as well as how sleep interacts with cognition, emotion, and mental health. |
Sleep and cognition are inextricably linked. Getting good quality sleep is necessary for optimal cognitive functioning. Likewise, processing difficult information, such as intense learning or emotional trauma, increases sleep drive. We investigate how the brain accomplishes these two tasks.

We incorporate a wide variety of behavioral, pharmacological, physiological, cellular and molecular techniques into our studies.
